NINO Annual Meeting
Our Annual Meeting, held at the end of January, offers an opportunity for advanced students and researchers of the Near East in the Netherlands to meet and exchange ideas about ongoing and envisioned research projects. An award ceremony of the NINO Thesis Prizes is part of the Meeting, which is co-organised by NINO and an alternating host institution.

NINO Postdoc Researcher’s Conference
Each NINO Postdoctoral Researcher organises an international conference during their tenure, on a theme related to their research, and publishes the proceedings.

Veenhof Lecture
The annual Veenhof Lecture (November), honouring the achievements of Dutch Assyriologist Prof. K.R. Veenhof, is co-organised with RMO. This celebratory evening event is aimed at colleagues and students, as well as a broader public. Internationally renowned scholars are invited as speaker.

Sancisi Lecture
The bi-annual Sancisi-Weerdenburg Lecture (spring), honouring the achievements of Dutch scholar Prof. Heleen Sancisi-Weerdenburg, is co-organised with RMO. This celebratory event is aimed at colleagues and students, as well as a broader public. Internationally renowned scholars are invited as speaker.

Herta Mohr Lecture
The annual Mohr Lecture will showcase and focus on early career contributions to Egyptology. It is co-organised with RMO and named after Herta Mohr, who moved with her parents to the Netherlands to study Egyptology at Leiden University from 1937 onwards.

NINO/EOL lectures
Co-organised with Ex Oriente Lux, we offer two Dutch-language lectures per year to colleagues, students, EOL members, Museum friends, and all who are interested in the Near East. These afternoon lectures are held at RMO: one in spring, one in autumn.
Week van het Oude Schrift
Co-organised with the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, the Dutch-language “Week of Ancient Writing” is a week-long series of lectures by experts for the broader audience, held in September.
Book launches
When affiliated researchers and colleagues in the Netherlands bring out a new volume – whether published with NINO/Peeters or elsewhere – NINO is glad to assist in organising a book launch in Leiden: an opportunity to present the new publication to colleagues, students, friends and family, and a celebration of the author’s achievement.
